An Experience during Movements
by Jan Henry

When I was at the Osho Commune in Pune (Poona) easrlier this year - I joined in one of the many daily meditation groups. This was ideal for me - perfect weather , like-minded peole, plenty to do, organic food, clean water and above all a chance to explore myself!

There is a huge, marble floored Meditation Hall - known as Bhudda Hall and there was masses of room for whirling.
One day I joined a class for the first time, where some of the Gurdjieff movements were taught. There was a steady beating of a drum - quite fast.In fact as I have a heart condition and am seventy - I soon discovered that the pace was too much for me. I began to worry and try and think of ways of doing it slower - or missing out bits - or lying down in a heap - ANYTHING. Being quite conceited I did not want to be the only person chickening out so I mental streatched the beat - by moving on the outer peramters of the beat. I tried not to move until the beat was fading...then suddenly .........a change happened. I was moving easily - no palpitation - no missed movements - just that the time it takes to travel from one movement to the next had expanded. It as so roomy within that second that I could have gone on all day....
At the end of the session I was fresh. I hardly believed what had happend to me

After that experience I could understand that when ever I need time to quicken or slow down I can have that power...within me for ever. Fear of panic disappeared. My heart slowed - my life is longer - or shorter - or what ever ...... How do others explain this? How did G himself explain it?

I am longing to hear more.

Yours sincerely - Jan Henry.
