Foreword to “The Buried Dog”
Jan Weinert about Peter Harnisch`s work as wordbooks to G.I.Gurdjieff “Beelzebubs Tails For His Grandson” .
Gurdjieff let his first version of his ”Beelzebub “ be read by a pupil. During the reading he watched the listeners.
Each word, that evokes the expression of understanding in the faces – he replaced with uncommen languages and mixed up neologism. The sounds of the new words often recall their meaning (like “Lunderperzo“, moon-luna or “Heptaparaparschinoch“, the rule of the seven).
So he coded the worldvision of wisdom-novel with more then 400 riddlewords.
Gurdjieff didn´t want his realizations – which had cost him hard work – to be just a nodding of intellectual understanding. He wanted the people to seek, that they discover the truth by themselves.
When asked if he were trying to bury the bone deeper with his codes, he replied: “No, the dog“.
Some claim that would have been a hint to the “little dog“ in the Sirius, a star Gurdjieff was connected to.
However, Gurdjieff is a mystery still. And he left us some mysteries, which are worth seeking for.
Gurdjieff, who refused to make a dictionary for his newwords, would surely –slap Peter Harnisch`s shoulder today with a smile, if he could see the riddle-pictures to his riddle-words. He would have been glad to see the searching-creative way of Peter to acquire his mysterious work and to pass on the acquisition in his own form.
If one looks at the pictures long enough – they express the meaning. Not the logic, but the intuition. Thinking in pictures connects the halves of thebrain – like for example in the tarot, whose 78 cards Peter Harnisch had drawn a few years ago.
One can only get deeper into the mystery if he tries.
Gurdjieff is still seducing to seek. Peter Harnisch`s contribution helps him.
Experience Report
At first glance I saw no problems, but then I realised I was staring at the
question: ”Which word do I start with?“ Assuparazata! And then at the explanations of Beelzebub`s new words, however devilish, I got lost in his forest of words. For these tricky words you`ll find a better definition a few hunderd pages later.
Luckily, going with the flow, I learnd that making only five advanced copies of each volume instead of twelve allowed for future changes.
For this amendment I am looking for help and cooperation.
